OIB-TAC January Webinar: Braille and Beyond!
Please join OIB-TAC and Alice O’Reilly, Chief of the Collections Division, National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS), for a fun and informative conversation. With so many new and exciting things happening at NLS, it’s a great time to get to know what’s going on at the nation’s free library for people with visual and print disabilities, along with how it might be a great resource for your clients. Alice will give an overview of what NLS has to offer in audio and braille, as well as how to enroll with the NLS cooperating library in your state or territory, and share some book lists to get your clients started!

Featured Continuing Education Course for Occupational Therapists
OIB-TAC is happy to share a free, self-paced course for occupational therapists (OTs)! This course will introduce generalist OTs to basic eye anatomy, common eye conditions, compensatory strategies, courtesy guidelines, and the importance of collaboration with vision rehabilitation professionals. For any OT interested in providing more extensive services to patients with blindness or low vision, this course will provide resources about further opportunities for education and information on certification in vision rehabilitation.
Please note that continuing education credits are not available for this course.

Kendra Farrow, OIB-TAC Project Director, was recently a featured guest on the Manager Minute podcast, produced by the Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Assistance Center for Quality Management.

Whether it’s training, job development and placement, or job retention, VR services, in conjunction with IL services, can lead to successful employment outcomes for Older Individuals who are Blind and contribute to their sense of purpose and meaning.

New Article Published: Common Eye Conditions and the Impact of Vision Loss as You Age
The National Council on Aging recently published a new article written by Kendra Farrow, OIB-TAC Project Director, about the importance of regular eye exams and the key services provided by vision rehabilitation professionals to individuals experiencing vision loss. The article features Time To Be Bold, OIB-TAC’s national public awareness campaign promoting OIB services.
