In my area, Southeastern Washington State, the state has cut back the funding for the independent older blind program which I find disturbing. I have only allowed to work with clients for three visits which is not enough to teach them the new technologies available to them.
Greetings and Happy Friday to Everyone,
Over the last several years our numbers of seniors served have risen quite a bit. On top of that, our eligibility criteria are very friendly at 20/60. With our increasing numbers we are going to have to come up with some policy guidelines to help us make sure we are getting to those seniors who need the services the most as quickly as possible.
Mark your calendars! The OIB-TAC live discussion series continues on Thursday, November 15, at 1:00 PM Eastern (12:00 Central, 11:00 Mountain, 10:00 Pacific), and you are invited to participate in this one-hour event.
As we prepare for our next Live Forum event on Thursday, November 15, we'd like to hear from you. Are there any topics that you would like to see/read about during a live discussion, or are there any questions you'd like ask of specialists in the field?
The topic for this live discussion is: OIB Services for Individuals with Dementia. Dementia describes a group of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person's ability to perform everyday activities.
I would like to thank everyone that attended the OIB-TAC Presentations and our Booth at the AER Conference in Reno, NV last week.
If you attended, the OIB-TAC would love to know what your favoriate parts of the conference were.
I am currently working with the NRTC to develop guidelines for by-laws and a code of ethics for the OIB-TAC advisory board. If any of you have established Advisory Boards and would be willing to share your experience and any pertinent information, I would be most appreciative.
Helen Keller National Center is currently accepting applications for the upcoming Confident Living Program for Senior Adults Who are Hard-of-Hearing and blind or have low vision. This is an exceptional hands-on opportunity for consumers to learn from the fantastic staff at HKNC.
