Helen Keller National Center is currently accepting applications for the upcoming Confident Living Program for Senior Adults Who are Hard-of-Hearing and blind or have low vision. This is an exceptional hands-on opportunity for consumers to learn from the fantastic staff at HKNC.

A five-day program specially designed for Senior Adults, age 55 and "better", who are hard-of-hearing and have vision loss. This program is limited to 6 participants.
Held on our HKNC campus at 141 Middle Neck Road Sands Point, NY 11050
Travel Dates: Monday Oct 22 (morning) and Saturday Oct 27 (morning).
The Confident Living Program (CLP) is based on a peer support group model and is designed to provide information about vision and hearing loss, which will in turn help reduce the fear, isolation, helplessness, and loneliness felt by many senior adults. The CLP acts as a safe haven for its duration, a place where each participant can count on acceptance and accommodation for his or her hearing and vision loss.
One of the benefits of the Confident Living Program is to encourage seniors to develop and maintain peer support opportunities with their peers. In addition, seniors will receive exposure to techniques and technologies that help persons with combined vision and hearing loss to maintain independence their homes. This program is limited to 6 participants.
Participant Goals: Participants of this program will obtain information and an introduction to skills in:
coping with hearing and vision loss
enhancing independent living skills
enhancing communication skills
experiencing new technology
developing community resources
utilizing Support Service Providers (SSPs)
leisure activity options
sharing life experiences with others
